The Oxford Dictionary describes the countryside as “the land and scenery of a rural area”.
But to those who live there or visit, it is so much more than that.
We asked on our Facebook page for people to describe, in three words or less, what they love about the countryside. This post received a fair few comments on the page, but it was also shared into several other groups. Some were very large international groups. The responses to the post are summarised in the below infographic. The larger the word, the more often the word was thought of.
One thing that struck us was that despite responses from around the world, the perception of the countryside is somewhat unanimous around the globe.
